Crushpad Announces Winners From Its Judgment of Paris Reenactment

Chateau Montelena Voted Best Chardonnay; Ridge and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Share Best Cabernet Sauvignon Honors

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 12, 2008) - Crushpad, the urban winery that is democratizing wine making, today announced the results from its Judgment of Paris reenactment, hosted as part of its "Bottle Shock" movie premiere party.

The competition pitted many modern day versions of the wines served at the 1976 Judgment of Paris, in which unsung California wineries -- Chateau Montelena and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars -- triumphed in a blind tasting of French and American wines.

This time around, Crushpad invited hundreds of wine enthusiasts in attendance to join with the panel of judges in casting votes for their favorites, with California wines once again sweeping the field. Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was named best white wine by both the judging panel and audience members. Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon was named best red wine by the judges and shared the honor with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars among audience members.

The judging panel for the reenactment included:

  • "Bottle Shock" producers, Marc and Brenda Lhormer
  • Crushpad Chief Winemaker, Michael Ziztlaff
  • TV personality and avid wine collector, Spencer Christian
  • Wine journalist, Deborah Parker-Wong

The owners of Chateau Montelena, Bo & Heidi Barrett were on hand to celebrate the results, as was GustavoThrace winemaker, Gustavo Brambila. The three were part of the team that won first place among white wines at the original Judgment of Paris.
