The Rhone Rangers (not so lost) Weekend
This past weekend Brixr pulled off the first-ever, live, online tasting of a major wine event at Rhone Rangers San Francisco.
We partnered with 20 wineries that were pouring their rhone-inspired wines over the weekend to create two Brixr tasting packs – one featuring eight wines that were being poured during Saturday’s seminar ‘Grenache: Red, White and Pink’, and the other tasting pack included twelve wines being poured at Sunday’s Grand Tasting. ![]()
Saturday’s informative seminar showcased both Grenache and Grenache Blanc, in styles from white, to salmon-colored, to rosé, to red. Moderated by the SF Chronicle’s Wine Editor Jon Bonné, the panel debated topics such as ideal terroir for Grenache, California vs. France, the future of the varietal and some insightful history of the grape from audience member and author Patrick Comisky. It was clear that given the opportunity, the panelists could have discussed Grenache for a few more hours at least.
The online audience was spread all over the US, from locations as diverse as Nashville, Chicago, San Francisco and Saratoga Springs.
If you missed it, here’s where you catch up: http://www.brixr.com/tastings/ondemand/28. Don’t forget to order a pack so you can taste the wines, get to know the wineries better, and form your own opinions as well.
For Sunday, our approach was a little different. We invited the wineries to come over to the Brixr table with a bottle of their featured wine to taste through with our host extraordinaire, Stuart Ake.
We wanted to feature a variety of Rhône wines for this one, so we put together a pack of Grenaches, Syrahs, red rhone blends, Petite Sirah and even a Roussanne. The line-up was great, and each participant had something unique to contribute to the discussion. You could say it was like being taken on a journey, except that the online audience didn’t have to move an inch (except to reach for the next Tiny Bottle of wine).
The online video is up at http://www.brixr.com/tastings/ondemand/29, with a matching tasting pack of course. What are your favorites? Log in using your Brixr account and leave comments, it’s always great to get more feedback and opinions.
