Bud Break and BBQ in Dry Creek

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Spring is both an exciting and nerve wracking time for growers. As buds burst from the winter slumber, sleepless nights ensue as vineyard managers fret over rainfall totals, pests, bouts of frost, a catalog of molds & mildews and a dictionary of vine diseases. ‘T’ain’t easy. Despite of (or because of) the challenges growers face, [...]

Guess the Mystery Wine

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Last week at the Around the World in 80 Sips event we asked partygoers to dissect Mystery Wine and tell us the blend.  The Mystery Wine is from our Fusebox at home wine blending kit and contains five varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.  This was no easy task.  While out [...]

Viva La Rosé-lución!

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Dreary wintry months may not immediately conjure the simple delights of a backyard toast with rosé. But, January in the Bay Area has been lamb-like with temps hovering in the 60s for most of the month. This Spring-like weather pattern has awakened yearnings for pink wines. Coincidentally, a delegation of winemakers from France, in town [...]

Last night at Crushpad we hosted a rollicking BYOZ event in advance of this weekend’s ZAP Festival at Fort Mason.  Our generous guests brought 50 some bottles of Zin, we brown bagged them and then dove headfirst into the fray of Turley, Ridge, Bucklin, Ravenswood and other Zin superstars.
For some reason Zin tastings always seem [...]

Pinot on the River Festival

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

The 4th annual Pinot on the River Festival was held along the western edge of the Russian River AVA in Forestville last weekend. Autumn is in the vineyard, evidenced by senescence; the aging of vine canopies where leaves change from photosynthesizing green to getting-ready-for-winter’s-slumber orange, yellow and red. The colorful backdrop was perfect for some [...]
